AARP Tax Aide – Central UMC is the home of the Douglas County AARP Tax Aide program, which provides free income tax assistance to taxpayers with low to moderate incomes, with special attention to those age 50 and older. Volunteer tax preparers receive all necessary tax law training and reference materials needed for tax preparation. The program runs annually beginning in mid- to late-January. Strengthening Families – Strengthening Families is a family-skills training program for high-risk families. Central UMC hosts the program for the Douglas County, Kansas area. Students are accepted by referral through various Douglas County judicial and social welfare agencies.
Family Promise – Central UMC partners with Family Promise of Lawrence in various ways including providing a venue for a monthly cooking class for families who have recently been placed in housing.
